new ipod nano 6th generation troubles?

Hi, I JUST bought a new iPod nano 6th generation. When I turned it in I had trouble selecting the language but finally did it. Then I tried to play the radio but it said I need to use the headphones, so I did, but it still does not work. And, by the way, the earphones do not fit the jack. Not the ones included with the iPod, not any of other headphones I have. It was very expensive so if anyone can hep me out to fix this problems I will be very thankful. Thank you.
