The following article may be helpful:

Try removing and reinstalling the battery as per sudo.

If that doesn't resolve it, try resetting the SMC controller following the steps in this article:

It's not a stupid question.

Your MacBook Pro may not even have a removable battery. If you have one of the following, then your battery cannot be removed:

  • MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2009) and later
  • MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2009) and later
  • MacBook Pro (17-inch, Early 2009) and later

If your MacBook Pro is not in the list above then, you can remove the battery. Here are the instructions:

We have two issues. One more immediate than the other. Why your computer froze is secondary to getting it powered off completely so we can restart and see if it freezes again. Only then can we proceed with figuring out why it's freezing.

So let's focus on getting it powered off. What MacBook Pro do you have? (size of screen and year it was made). We need to determine if we can remove the battery or not. Is your MacBook Pro one of the three on the list I gave you?

Okay, then you cannot remove the battery. I'm not sure how to help you any further. I would suggest going through Apple's official channels at this point.

Check your coverage status here:

Proceed with the Express Lane protocol on the same page.

If you don't have AppleCare coverage, you could still probably get it. Yet seeing as though this is a widespread issue, Apple may cover you even if your AppleCare coverage has recently expired.
