What do you mean "under"? You mean on the menu bar at the top of your screen? If that's the case, then it's just the SSID of some wireless transmitter in your area. I name mine....oh never mind, it's not fit for publication. 😉

Thank you for the answer. I have 2 macbook pros and it is on the newer one. But now I feel better.
Yeah, a neighbor or something has a WiFi network named STEM. Probably has some meaning. In my neighborhood, I can see at least 15 wireless networks. I probably should wear a tin hat.
Well, some smartphones and computers can retransmit as WiFi. Even your Macs can become WiFi hotspots. Maybe that's what it's showing.
But, we are talking about the list of signals just below the WiFi signal icon on the top menu? Not the Bluetooth icon?
maybe this? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/STEM_fields
On a Mac, it is Stealth Tracking Evidence Mechanism. It is a method by which police or FBI track a computer, in this case a Mac. Good luck.
it is listed under my Airport utility icon under devices.
for real? I have STEM listed as device under my Airport utility icon.
I mean it is listed in my Airport utility icon . When I open it I can see all the other networks but STEM is listed as a device.
Thank you for the answer. I have 2 macbook pros and it is on the newer one. But now I feel better.
I just looked and it is on both computers. I think you are right about a transmitter of some type. Thanks.
I am just very curios because it is listed as a device.
