I have received some photos by e mail. Is there any way that I can transfer them to iPhoto on my iPad to save them?
I had no problem getting them to the camera roll on my iPhone just by tapping on them and saving them.

You can transfer photos from a camera such as the iPhone, using Apple's iPad Camera Connection Kit. The Kit consists of two adapters that can plug into the iPad. One has an SD card slot, the other has a USB connector. By connecting a camera's (iPhone's) USB cable to the USB adapter in the Kit, you can transfer photos to the iPad's camera roll.
That should do what you need if your iPhoto App can access the iPad's camera roll.

iPad should work the same way. Hold your finger down on the photo, a pop up will come up to save the image, tap on that and it'll go to your camera roll
I have a new ipad air. When I try to import a photo from Mail to iPhoto, I cannot save the photo. After I tap on the photo in Mail, the only options that pop up are "copy" and "select all", and there is no option to save the image. Any ideas on how to fix this?

I do not have iPhoto on my iPad 2, but I think you have to first save the photo to your camera roll.
Try press-and-holding on the photo. With iOS 7.0.4, I get nine or ten options, depending on how many photos are included in the message.

Thanks Fred: that worked, I finally the option to save the picture after press-and-holding as opposed to tapping the photo alone.
