Are you running latest iTunes ?
I dont know. I turn the new iPad on and just get the screen with the pic of a USB wire with an arrow pointing up and the iTunes icon above that. Cant get past that screen to see any versions or apps listed.
So you have done what it's asking you to do, connected it to your computer ?
im having the same problem with a new ipod touch and have a very sad 7 year old who just got it this morning:(
Tried connecting but laptop doesn't recognize it. Could be a problem with laptop. But what if I didn't have a computer. Shouldn't have to connect to a computer, my iPad 1 worked right out of the box?
If you have the IOS5 iPad you would not need a computer but the first generation iPad had to be set up with a computer. Maybe it was set up for you in the Apple store. It could be because you laptop already has the old iPad backed up on it.
There have been some problems accessing pages on the Apple web site. If the hyperlink gives you a "We're sorry" message, try again.
Interesting? This is a different laptop then i use for gen 1. Frustrating when you give it as a gift on Christmas you expect the receiver to be enjoying without waiting for the Apple store to open tomorrow!!!!!!
Yes some people think you just open the box and your ready to go ! Anyhow I am sure you will be able to get it worked out, they must be good if you are back for a second one !
The iPad is awesome, however, it should work straight out of the box!!
I've had the same problems today. Bought a New I pad for a friend at Fred Meyers. It wanted a computer to set up. I Think this is the old model of the Ipad 2. It's not running the new OS5 running system and it does not have I cloud. I have a new OS5/icloud model that I bought 2 months ago. it didn't need a computer with I tunes to set it up. I'm mad at the local store for selling outdated models with out disclosing it. I'm calling apple in the morning and making a complaint. Should have bought directly from apple.
Yes how dare they sell inventory without a single difference in hardware from the just off the assembly line to unsuspecting buyers!
Get a life.
Hope your not telling me to get a life. After I got the iPad from the local store up and running I noticed these differences. No iCloud, iPad doesn't have the pinch close feature, can't have @me.com mail, and failed to install an app that said it was only ios5 compatible. I'm sure there must be other things missing too. Does anybody know if you can update on line from ios4 to ios5 ?
Connect the iPad to the computer you wish to sync to. Open iTunes, select
the iPad in the left column, on the summary screen there is a button to check
for updates. After you update the iPad to IOS 5, you should have access to
iCloud features.
Your initial post stated you purchased the iPad at Fred Meyers; obviously the
retailer is selling off old inventory which has not been updated, but the update
is easy for you to do.
After updating, if you still have questions, please come back and post - someone
should be able to help you or point you in the right direction.
Again, read Chapter 2.
