Calculate % discount

Hello,

I'm new to Apple Numbers, and would like to know how I can calcuate the product of a % discount.

For example, I'm sure you've been in this situation in life:

Column N1 to N20 has items that need to be added up.

They are added up (summed up) in field N21.

N22 then has a place where I input the % discount to be applied on N21

N23 then has to give me the price/amount with the % discount that was calculated in N21.

How do I write this in Numbers formula.

Oh, by the way, I'm not even using Numbers application, Im using Pages which has these tables where you can do Number manipulation. I'm assuming Pages has the same foruma expression in Numbers.

Thanks

Houba,

Formulas will be the same in Pages Tables or Numbers Tables, but there are enough differences in how tables are used that it would be good for you to ask in the Pages discussion area, in general.

Here are the basic instructions for your situation:

Let's assume that you will decide to label the columns, so your data will actually begin in Row 2.

As you have described the project, there will be 1 Header Row and 3 Footer Rows. Set the number of Header and Footer rows in the Table Inspector, Table Tab, Headers and Footers section.

In the first Footer Row, enter: =SUM(N)

In the second Footer row, enter your percentage as xx%. You must use the % suffix for the calculation to be correct in this scheme.

In the third Footer row, do the following: Type an = sign, click on the first footer row cell to place that reference into the formula, type *(1- , type ) and hit return.

Assuming that your footer rows are 21, 22 and 23, N23 will contain: =N21 * (1-N22)

Regards,

Jerry
