How do i add an iPod Touch iMessage contact to my iPhone 4s

I have an iPhone 4s.

My son has a new 4th Gen iPod touch.

On the iPod touch, i added a new contact, so my son could send me an iMessage. That was all setup without any issues.

I then did the same on my iPhone 4s, but then i came across a bit of a problem.

When i open the Messages app on the iPhone 4s, and i start to type my sons name, i notice that my sons contact details dont appear in the "To:" field automatically.

Remember all that i added when i added my sons contact details was his email address which is associated with his iCloud account.

Basically, all i want is to be able to send my son an iMessage and when i start to type his name, then it appears automatically. This whole process works perfect on the iPod touch when he is sending me a message.

Just a little more info. When my son sends me an iMessage, i am able to reply to it, and it goes through fine. But if i delete that message, i am unable to send a new message direct from the Messages app, because like when i explained above, his name doesn't appear when i start typing it in.

Thanks for the links, but unfortunately it didn't fix the issue i am having.

iMessages does work for me, its just the issue of sending my son a new message.

If i launch the "Contacts" app and select my son, if i then press the "Send Message" button, it loads the Messages app and the button turns blue and i can send an iMessage no problem.

All i want to do is to be able to launch the "Messages" app, and then type my sons name into the "To:" field. Then type the actual iMessage. For some reason its just not automatically coming up, like my name does when my son does the exact same thing on his iPod Touch.
