iMessage wont work on my ipod touch!

Anyone else having a problem with iMessage? So far everything else seems ok. I have tried several times to log in and eventually get a error message saying "PLEASE CHECK YOUR NETWORK CONNECTION AND TRY AGAIN LATER". There is no problem with my network connection and I've been online on several websites which appear to be working correctly. I have also checked in settings to turn ON iMessage but when I click on settings and then Messages, there is only the sign up fields, no activation buttons to slide across etc. Anyone out there with some help?

How to resolve this problem:

Turn off and on (restart) your iOS device (press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds, then slide the slider.)

If restarting doesn’t fix it:

It has been reported that changing your DNS settings fixes this issue. To change DNS servers, follow these instructions for iOS devices (iPhone, iPod touch, iPad):

  1. Tap Settings
  2. Tap Wi-Fi on the left-hand side
  3. Tap the blue arrow next to your current Wi-Fi network
  4. Tap the “DNS” field and enter the DNS servers; 8.8.8.8 (Google’s Public DNS). For more information about Google’s public DNS, please see this:http://code.google.com/speed/public-dns/

I was having the same problem with my son's new ipod touch. I couldn't activate iMessage or Facetime. I tried changing the DNS, turned it on and off, changed the password, everthing. Then I moved closer to the router (I went in the other room and stood next to it) and got a really strong signal. It activated fine then. Maybe just coincidence, but might be worth trying if the signal is not that strong and you are having trouble.
