I have a late 2006 imac with a 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 1g of RAM. I want to max this thing out and update the OS. It says on this site that the max RAM i can instal is 3G. Is there anyway I can instal more?

You can physically install two 2 GB modules, but only 3 GBs of the installed RAM will be available to the system.
Actually, you can install 4 GB of RAM in your iMac, but the computer will only use a maximum of 3 GB.
3 is the max that you mac can handle. This was predetermined during production and you can not make it use anymore.
Actually due to a memory controller chip that would only address the first 3 GBs because the chip used part of the remaining 1 GB for system data. Not all of the 1 GB was used so about 324 MBs is addressable by the user.
