CPU stand for a Mac Pro?

Does anyone know of a good source for a CPU stand suitable for a Mac Pro? I know of a couple that I could get in Japan, but shipping or a plane ticket is a bit more then I want to spend.

Are you any good at DIY? There is a design for a nifty one that hangs your Pro under a desk. You can get the idea here:

If you're interested, there is more information (including an animation!) in that thread.

I dont shrink away from DIY, however an under-desk mount wont work as I have a glass surface desk with nothing to attach it to. A new desk is in the long term plans, but my 2012 budget was spent on a new Mac Pro. What's more, if I where to go with an under desk mount I would probably just spend the money on a pre-built one as they are not that expensive.

I've been looking into a couple places that can import one of the two I originaly listed, but it is an expensive and long process.

My primary concern is vibrations (four hard drives some times causes my current Mac Pro to buzz) and static (some times rolling back in my chair will cause my Mac Pro to wake from sleep mode). And of course dust.

I used 2x4s, made a box shape 3.5 inches tall and filled the gap inside the box with 2x4 scrap ends. Then cap top and bottom with plywood. Put 4 wheels on the bottom and a furniture drawer pull on the front.

Put the CPU tower on the box.

Basically a "solid wood rolling box". The weight of the box shifts the center-of-mass down towards the floor and the easy movement of the box makes managing the cables on the CPU-back easy.

About $20 in parts.

I could see building a wood stand by taking a 2x6 and curving the ends to match the curvature of the Mac Pro frame. Of course I may also just push my desk buying ahead a bit. Thinking of getting GeekDesk frame and putting a butcher block counter top on it to which I could under mount the CPU, assuming I dont end up with too much weight and that the under mounting wont cause the CPU to sway when the desk is lifted or lowered (GeekDesks are motorized to rise and lower to pre-set heights).

Kujako- I do have a CPU 'skate' that I had a Mac Pro on for 4 yrs. I don't know what the metal is but after 4 yrs use it doesn't flex so is sturdy.

I received the skate 4 yrs ago as a gift; it has no identification on it (manufacturer or source), giver not around so can't ask for info. Needs a bit of cleaning but not hard & can do.

It looks a lot like the pics of the Japanese one but not as shiny, wheels smaller.

The base ht is ~3 1/4", wheels are nylon & ~1" diameter, length of inside bed=17.5", width=8".

Wheels don't lock, only go forward & back, not side to side.

If you're interested I'll take pics -1st ones didn't turn out, need better lighting, also not sure how to get in in here but will try if you are interested and I can get instructions for getting a pic on this site. Embarrassingly non-techy at the moment.

The Mac Pro went south--something elect. & I've given up, not worth my effort to do more. Have a new iMac.

So I'm willing to UPS the skate if you're interested in it. Feel free to say No. Just would like to find a good home for a Useful Object.

I would definitely be interested epass. If you manage to get some images you can send them to me directly.

At a guess its one of the old "G5 Skateboards" that where once produced, but I would need to see it to be sure. Regardless of what it is, if it serves my needs I would be willing to compensate you for the device.

Great. I have taken some pics, just don't know how to get them into this site. Much easier to put in email.

I'll email ASAP.

As I said it does need a bit of cleaning (didn't clean before I slung it into the cellar for recycle) but easy enough to do before sending if you are interested.

And you may indeed be correct about the designation, dunno.

As I said before feel free to say No.
