can't rebuild ap 2 library

Lion fried the macbook and i eventually had to rebuild all users. Luckily my mac is back to fighting weight. i have a slight problem with ap 2 (and iphoto 11) that i can't cure. Ap 2 works perfectly, but....if i "view aperture library" in iphoto nothing i have added to my aperture library since the date of my lion update will appear. this was true the say i updated to lion, and it seems to have carried over even after i have rebuilt all users.

I tried opening aperture with command and option to see the help box to rebuild my aperture library. when i select 'rebuild' aperture just opens normally. Is the rebuilding happening in the background? nothing indicates a rebuild is in fact happening. thoughts? Thanks.
