How can I remove a finder background from the view options in Finder? The background options are grayed out and I can't click on white or color or picture. I'd like to go back to a basic white or color background.

You need to be a little more specific about what file or folder you are trying to change. It's possible you don't have the permissions to do so. You can easily check by selecting the file or folder then typing Command I (I as in Ivan) and look at the permissions towards the bottom of the dialogue box.
I'll try your suggestion but I put a .jpg as my finder background and would like to remove it. My account does have administrator permissions. If I was able to put an image I should be able to remove it.
I'm having the exact same problem here. I put a picture as background in applications and "my files", and no way I can get it out, the area where it's possible to choose between white, color and image is grayed out, and if I click on the image in the small box and delete it, it keeps coming back... I put white as background on the HD folder and clicked the "use as default values" (or whatever it's called in English) put I still get the stupid picture 😟

The only way I found to fix this is to save a white background at high res, then drag it to the small square to change the background. Problem solved ! ! !
If you want to change it to any color go to another folder other that " all files " and select what you want.

IIRC, there was a Solid Color folder in SL's /Library/Desktop Pictures/, which contained a Solid White.png file. Select that and you should be able to use the white one.

just choose a white image and be done with it? Isn't this a real Bug?
