What is the main router to the network? Is the TC in network mode?

So you only want to access the Lacie not the TC?

Does the Lacie offer ftp http or other methods of access unlike the TC which is straight AFP?

Remote to TC is here.

Some variation of that should get you into the Lacie for AFP. You probably need to forward port 548 to the IP though.

Need to know the main router before we can work out details. Do you happen to have a fixed or static public IP? Much easier if you do.

What about security? If you care, then it is far better to buy a vpn router.. and ignore all this stuff.. vpn into the network and you can access the full network by the vpn tunnel. If you are connecting from a work location, I would also check they allow remote access, by any means other than vpn (maybe not even that). You are opening a fundamental security hole and can introduce nasties into a work network, there will be a lack of love for you if you do that.

Hi

My TC is my only router in network mode. It is connected to the ISP via Ethernet.

I want remote access to the Lacie not the TC.

Here is the problem:

I have opened the port in Airport Utility (port mapping) eg.

Public TCP/UDP port: 8880

Private TCP/UDP port: 548

IP Address: my Lacie IP

When I access the Lacie Dashboard I enter the 8880 port but it say that this port is closed, so I can't connect remotly. Is there any terminal command to open this port ? Or I need to reset my router manually by unplugging the power cord?

Please help

You can always do a reboot.. that is worthwhile just to make sure everything took!! so to speak.

Can I ask why you are port translating. Why are you using 8880 as public address and 548 as the private address?

Perhaps give a screen shot of the setup screen doing port forwarding in the TC.

If you need to access AFP. the port should not be translated.. just open 548.

How are you testing this.. are you testing from WAN.. using a different broadband connection or remotely?

I am assuming the Lacie is AFP disk.. can the Mac open it using AFP??

Ok,, first issue.. the TC does not have a public address.. it has a private IP on both side.

Where is the TC getting the 192.168.1.xxx address from.. because that is where the issue is.

You have another router in front of the TC.. getting your public IP.. 83.xx.xx.xx

The only IP routable over the internet is the public ip.. and so on the other end, you have to put AFP://83.xx.xx.xx:8880 as you have it currently setup.

Remove or bridge whatever router you have in front of the TC.. or bridge the TC.. and port forward through the router in front of that.

OK, So you do not have a public IP at all.. the issue will not be solved by you.. and because you are using wireless repeater technology from a private IP router.. sorry you cannot achieve what you want, unless the owner of this system is prepared to do the port forwarding for you. Which if he runs a large network I doubt they would. You need to get your own broadband.. not shared. If you cannot get adsl or cable then get 3G wireless router and pay for a 3G service. Be careful because some of the cheaper ones even use private IP addresses instead of public.

Sorry this has gone on so long.. but you need to understand that the main router is run by the service that setup the nanostation. They are in effect the people who control your network. So if you want remote access you need to go and ask them for help.

Read up about public and private IP address ranges.

What is the main router to the network?

You are on a private system.. and so remote access can never take place. Your router is not the main router.
