Can I get my engraving removed? It stinks.

Don't do it. The aluminum is most probably very thin and any attempt to remove engraving could very well go right through it.

What did you have engraved that you hate?

It's permanent unless you grind it off.

I think a jeweler might be able to polish it off. Did someone give you the iPad with the engraving on it? Or how did you end up with engraving you think is so awful? It is on the back after all.

Hmmm, well not necessarily. I have found this thread as I want to sell my engraved iPad 1 and get a new one. However, I don't want the old one floating around with my name and 'if lost' phone number on the back.

Straightforward enough for you?

One reason why engraving Apple products is a bad idea. If you ever want to sell, it instantly reduces the re-sale value.
