I am wanting to purchase the Downton Abbey Season on itunes, but my ipad says there is not enough space, is there away I can view the size of the download before I purchase it?

They used to have this info displayed under every season pass but that went away a few years ago when they redesigned iTunes layout.
Not sure if it's possible to find the total size of a season.
There's no official way of doing it, unlike with Movies where the download size is under the title. However a rough guide seems to be allow around up to 34MB per min for HD and maybe up to 15MB per min for SD. So, using Downton Abbey Season 1, this would mean the total download would be about 12.9GB in HD and about 5.3GB in SD. Season 2 will be a bigger download still since each episode is longer plus there's an extra episode. Season 2 would probably be around 15.4GB in HD and 6.3GB in SD.

So is it possible to use the SD version, if so what is the difference, I don't need the HD if that means High Definition.

Yeah. When you search for Downton Abbey in the iPad iTunes store, click View for the season you want. A pop up should appear with the season info. To the right of the price you should see two HD/SD buttons. Try pressing the one that says SD. Window should change info, for example the price for season 1 will drop from £13.99 to £9.99
Unfortunately, that doesn't list the total size of the season pass.
SD 45 minutes shows are generally about 400- 600MB or so. HD 45 minute shows are generally 1.3-1.4GB. HD shows will include both the HD and SD copies.
