Yes, me too, my Safari keeps quitting on me...

Question

OS 10.4.11  Safari 4.1.3.Safari keeps quitting on me after a few minutes of using it, and I get the (looooong) error report which I can post here, if asked...I already did a RESET, and I ran Cocktail to fix permissions and clear caches. Then I tried Safari using my ALTERNATIVE account -- and it remained stable there.What&#x27;s next?  I don&#x27;t want to delete something from the system that would wipe all my BOOKMARKS.......Thanks....

If you post the crash report, post only the part after the term &#x27;Binary Images&#x27;; the rest is useless to us.Also, resetting Safari is not a solution, so don&#x27;t bother doing that. Permissions aren&#x27;t the likely cause, either; otherwise it wouldn&#x27;t run at all. Same with caches. Deleting Safari from your system won&#x27;t fix anything, and it won&#x27;t delete your Bookmarks.But the fact that it runs fine in an alternate account points directly to something you installed in your regular account that doesn&#x27;t play nice with it. So that&#x27;s where we start looking; in the Crash Report.

It looks like your Flash plug-in is not current, and I&#x27;m guessing you don&#x27;t have Flash installed in the alternate account you used to test Safari.So, if that&#x27;s true, you need to go to the Adobe web site and download the Flash Uninstaller for Tiger:http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/909/cpsid_90906.htmlQuit all applications that might use Flash (all browsers, etc) and run the Uninstaller to remove Flash. Then use this link to download the current version of Flash for Tiger (instead of trying to find your way around that horrible-to-navigate Adobe site), which is 10.3; Flash 11 is only for Intel-based Macs.http://prodesigntools.com/go/full_flashplayer_macosx_ubOnce you install that, test Safari again to see if the crashing continues.

Kurt,I admit, I had some issues with Flash Player lately, and attempts to update it failed...So I followed your lead about the UNINSTALL process, and successfully so.However, the link you posted for downloading the updated software doesn&#x27;t work, keeps showing as "NOT FOUND"....  So I checked around the Adobe site and found a link to download FP 10.3. But when trying to install it, it gave me the same actual message I kept getting the same message I got when I tried updating it in the past:And when clicking on the "Get Flash Player for PowerPC" I get to this pagehttp://kb2.adobe.com/cps/142/tn_14266.htmlLooking thru the Archived Versions, the only active link is the one for Intel-Processor machines, but no link for PowerPC version... There a few more links below, but I don&#x27;t know which to chose....SO I&#x27;M BACK TO SQUARE ONE.... Okay, sorry about that download link; I thought it should work, but I guess it&#x27;s easier for Adobe to constantly delete old download pages on their web site, rather than leave them alone so people can have permanent links to their crappier-every-day software. Try this one instead:http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/installers/archive/fp10.1_archi ve.zipThis should contain two versions, but you want to install the flashplayer101r82_76_ubmac.dmg item. Then you can test Safari to see if that solves your crashing problem.

Try quitting Safari, then turn off (or disable) Unsanity&#x27;s FontCard and FruitMenu items. Then restart Safari and see if the crashing still happens.

Checking my System Preferences:FontCard is currently not enabled (the "Enable FontCard" button is NOT selected).But I disabled FruitMenu....We&#x27;ll see...

FruitMenu seems to be the culprit. After hours of using Safari with FruitMenu (and quitting), then without (simply uncheck the "FruitMenu enabled" in the System Preferences), remaining stable ----- must be FruitMenu that Safari doesn&#x27;t like.... Funny part of the whole thing, I don&#x27;t even notice any difference in my Mac&#x27;s interface with or w/o FruitMenu.... Not even sure what it does....So, should I just leave it as is, or is there any other step I should do?Thanks again, Kurt.... I regard this is solved now.

FruitMenu lets you customize your Apple menu: http://unsanity.com/haxies/fruitmenuIf it&#x27;s causing problems for you, just delete all traces of it, or turn it off and leave it off, until a later version of it or Safari comes out, which may solve the conflict between those two apps.
