how do I access my old word files?

I've upgraded to Lion/iCloud but now I can't open any word documents. A dialog box pops up and says 'PowerPC applications are no longer supported'. But when I installed Lion it didn't ask me about my word/powerpc documents or anything. Do I have to purchase another app for Lion to work?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.2), Just 'upgraded' to Lion w/iCloud

OpenOffice.org is a free download of a very capable substitute

LibreOffice and NeoOffice are recommended by some.

I use openoffice to access MS-formatted files.

Thanks! I'll check it out. Sounds like I will probably have to purchase Office: mac eventually though...

Office 2011 is the one you buy. Current cost around $200.
