How to calibrate an iPhone battery?

Hi, I took my iphone 4s to the genius bar at apple store today. Despite having terrible battery problems they told me to wait for ios 5.1 and to calibrate my iphone battery, I was also told that replacing the phone would not be a solution as it is a software based issue.


So I have been browsing the web on how to calibrate an iphone 4s battery and have found answers but they all seem different. Answers I discovered were:


1.

  • We must let the iPhone runs the entire burden of the battery, i.e. use it until it shuts down for lack of battery.
  • After the iPhone battery has run out, we let it sit for about 6 to 8 hours.
  • After this time because we can connect it to boot to load, this process should be left between 6 to 8 hours. (While it may use its load without disconnecting from the mains.)
  • Once the load, you can enjoy your iPhone newly calibrated.

"First, plug your device into a charger and let it charge fully – leave it charging for another hour or two after its fully charged. Then, remove from the charging source and use your device like normal. Do not plug it into a charging source, but use it until the device decides to power itself off due to low battery. When that happens, plug in your device into a charging source and let it charge fully. During this time, it is completely safe to use your device."

Im still not sure how to calibrate an iphone battery.


Can anyone please tell me the correct method?

iPhone 4S, iOS 5.0.1, (9A406)

HHey not doubting you but I am asking if you know this for sure because I Jus got the MacBook pro with Retina display and they tell me do calibrate battery in same manner brad reccomends so I kno its a difference between macbook and I phone but I am curious and probably going to do anyway with my new iPhone 6plus I bought today (first time iPhone use came from android) only gonna have this phone for thirty days then trade back for the 7s or whatever the best one coming out in couple weeks but curious to know for sure if we should be doing this when first using iphone ..?? sorry for the novel.. lol

Calibrate iPhone Battery:


Use the iPhone until it it shuts OFF itself, due to Low Battery. Then Charge it back up without interruption, like unplugging it, to full charge 100%. Then before or after you do this, Reset iPhone, hold both home and power buttons until the iPhone restarts itself, ignore the "slide to power off slider", let the iPhone restart itself.

There is no need to perform this procedure at all. Apple has stopped recommending it. It never calibrated the battery. It calibrated the battery sensor, making the battery indicator on the phone somewhat more accurate. It never affected the behavior of the battery itself.

I doubt your problem would be solved by any attempts to calibrate the battery sensor. Make an appointment at the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store.
