Have just arrived in bahrain haven't had any problems before with signal abroad! But won't pick up anythign have tried resetting network but nothing!! just searches then says no service! even on a manual search it finds networks, select them and a tick appears but nothing changes!!! help!!

Have you selected Data Roaming and checked it ?
Is there no network whatsoever or is just data roaming concerned? However, you should check with your provider if they have a roaming partner in Bahrain AND which services are covered. Perhaps the partner in Bahrain just allows calls, but no data usage. If data roaming is possible, make sure the correct apn is in the network settings.

Is your account provisioned for international roaming? You would have had to do this BEFORE you left with your carrier.

Have you travelled since you got the 4S? I know it worked on your 3GS, but since the carrier would have had to provision a new SIM, they may not have provisioned it correctly.
Have you updated to the current build of 5.0.1? (the phone will NOT indicate an update is available if you updated to the 'original 5.0.1. In order to get it, you have to back up and manually restore the phone using iTunes).
yes ive been in europe and africa and picked up a network no problems!
Ah ok am doing a manual restore at minute and its downloading software even though it says that its up to date! hopefully this will solve it.
nope unfortunatly the update has not sorted the netwrok out :-(
