BEST GRAPHICS CARD FOR MY G4 AGP GRAPHICS

If money were not a consideration, what is the best graphics card that I can put in my G4 AGP Graphics Mac. I tried the ATI 9200, but did not notice any improvement from my 6 year old card and was actually told that because the 9200 is a PCI card it was slower than my old AGP card.

Robert,
Is that the Radeon 9800 PRO Mac Edition 256MB AGP? Part #100-435058?
I believe we have the same system. I purchased 9600 PC & Mac and it didn't fit so now I'm gun shy.

Hi,
The ATI9600 Mac Edition is keyed for 4X, 8X AGP and will not fit in your 2X machine. The ATI 9800 128MB Mac Edition and the ATI 9800 256MB are keyed for 2X, 4X and 8X, so will work in your 2X AGP Mac.

One proviso, those Mac's have either 208w or 237w PSU's and overloading the tower with lot's of extra hardware can overtax the PSU. I have a ATI 9800 128MB in my 237w AGP Sawtooth Mac and it works terrific, but I don't have too much else in it. This is what you are looking for.

Dave

Hi,
I guess you could look inside the Tower, but the later models (Rev.2) had the 237w PSU.

The 9800 comes with a 4-pin Molex adapter (one into two). You plug one end of a HDD power into it, and back into the HDD, the remaining end goes to the Video card, - cake. There are lots of folks running 9800's in Sawtooth's, I just wouldn't have 3 HDD's, 3 PCI cards and several externals plugged in. If you use externals, get the self powered type with their own power supplies.

Regards,
Dave
