Apr 27, 2012 3:51 PM in response to Don Trammellby Pixyst,I have been pretty frustrated with Apple's handling of the Aperture product just like most people, but one recent observation has given me pause. After I saw a comparison between the Hassy HD40 and Nikon D800 in an online video in which the D800's skin tones were criticized, I installed LR4 myself. The skin tones on the D800 were actually quite bad in the video comparison and this was done in Lightroom. My observation has been that raw conversion in Aperture is far better for Nikon D800 NEF files in Aperture 3.2 than in LR4. Even for D300 files there is a notable difference in favor of Aperture. For this singular reason I am compelled to wait a little longer to see what Apple does and I am really not happy about this .

Apr 27, 2012 4:30 PM in response to Pixystby cashaww,If I am going to do colour correction, for Nikon, I find the only tool that works everytime is CX2. Though Aperture is good, I find it is blown away by CX2.

Apr 28, 2012 5:03 AM in response to cashawwby Don Trammell,Just a question but did you calibrate your monitor? I am using a MBP 15 inch, newest model and I had to calibrate the monitor because the colors were a bit cool. However I agree with you. I use Nikon CX2, as well as Nik's Colorefx Pro....

Apr 28, 2012 10:48 AM in response to Terence Devlinby Don Trammell,Hi Terence,
There is Capture NX2 and View NX2. Capture NX2 is much more robust with control points, etc... What Aperture is missing. Go to: http://www.europe-nikon.com/en_GB/product/software/camera-control-pro-2 to see a full spec list...I use this and it is very good.

Just checked Amazon and there are 2 listings for Aperture 4 books, with different release dates. Check it out! Come on Apple put us out of our misery.... just launch Aperture 4!

May 31, 2012 1:23 PM in response to SiliconTlacoby One Big Wookie,Now that LR4.1 has been out, and Scott Bourne essentially called Apple to task, here's my list of "must have's"
- Lens correction
- Selective WB Adjustment (i.e. add this as an adjustment brush)
- Gradient filter (including neutral density, colored)
- Highlights/Shadows/Whites/Blacks sliders - i.e. similar process version to LR4
- Perhaps more book options.
James Oliver's poste of the Amazon UK site is quite encouraging, in that there appears to be two books coming out.

May 31, 2012 1:38 PM in response to One Big Wookieby cashaww,It seems to me, people are attempting to turn Aperture into an existing product, Photoshop. This could go a long way in explaining why Aperture has become a resource hog. I want Aperture to be the photo manager it was meant to be, meaning all photo corrects are off loaded by plugin, or photoshop.

On that I agree, but I would like to have a better plug-in / external editor interface, that does not interrupt the lossless workflow. True Aperture plug-ins would allow reversible edits and not require additional quasi-masters.

Jun 13, 2012 10:10 AM in response to SiliconTlacoby sgvogel,Just loaded the Aperture update 3.3 and want to comment on the new Set Desktop feature. While I am glad they finally added it, it took too long to actually find it so I went to Help. It is located under File>Share. Its not in the obvious place - the toolbar Share dropdown. I bet they overlooked adding it there. Perhaps for the next update Apple can fix that.
