I made the switch from PC to Mac and I bought (Dec 2011) a new Macbook Pro; I put all of my files (from PC) on a flash drive and now I want to open/save them on my macbook. Please explain how I do this. (First time Mac user).

Plug the flash drive into a USB port, double-click on the disk icon when it appears on the Desktop. Drag the files to your hard drive.

Insert the thumb drive into one of the USB ports. Open Finder and click on the USB drive in the left hand side of the finder window. Select all of one type/extension and drag them to the appropriate folder in your user area. Picture to picture folder, Music to the music folder and so on.
