macbook pro keeps shutting down

my macbook pro keeps shutting down for no reason. i have just installed the latest software for itunes but since doing that, it has shut itself down automatically 4 times in the last 30 minutes. All my software is no up to date or so it says but it didn't ask me to restart my machine once the install had finished, i carried on working and then it just shut itself down.

I am running on MAC OS X 10.6.8, Processor 2.3 GHz Intel core i5 and memory 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3.

Can anyone help please?

A desktop Mac that shuts down without any warning is often overheating. Fan failure can cause this.

A portable Mac with certain obscure battery problems can also shut down suddenly, but if it was on a properly-functioning power adapter at the time, this generally can be ruled out.

You should try running Apple Hardware Test, and/or make an appointment to visit the genius Bar. There is no charge for consultations at the Genius Bar. If you need repairs, that work may be extra, depending on your warranty status.
