iTunes voucher not working?!

I have got an iTunes voucher and I redeemed it and it says that I have £15 in my account(which is the voucher amount) but when I try to buy something it say I dont have enough within my bank account, so it's trying to take it out of my bank rather then off my iTunes code, I don't know whether I have done something wrong or I'm just being stupid. Please help?
