SERIOUSLY HELP ME!!! My MacBook Pro's acting weird!

Ok, I have a SERIOUS problem. I just got 8GB of RAM for my MacBook pro, I checked 4 times to make sure I had the right one, DDR3 1333mHz PC3-10600. I installed it, then turned my computer on. It worked until the login screen. I clicked my name, then a popup came and said "please restart your computer by holding the power button until the screen comes off, and then power it back on." this happened several times, until i decided to go back to my 4GB. I booted it up, then the loading screen with the white BG and grey apple and loading icon came up, and it stayed that way. I then turned it off, then went back to the 8GB again, then the same thing that happened with the 4GB, happened with the 8GB: white BG, grey apple logo, and loading icon. I don't know what to do now as it is still loading as we speak, and I even went to the movies, and came back and it was still loading. Please help me, I don't know what to do and I am scared that I might have messed something up PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!

Help is via the folks you bought the ram from which sounds like even though the specs match may not be the appropriate quality for your MBP. You did not mention where you bought it from or the make and model number. However, do check with:

macsales.com

crucial.com

for the quality ram your MBP needs.

I found the following after a quick internet search... there are several similar comments on other fora and newsgroups. It may or may not be relevant to your problems.

Komputerbay sells 8gb DDR3 ram at 2 bus speeds of 1033 and 1333.They tell you that both are compatible with your MacBook. pro Notebooks. The facts:-Macbook Pro are very specific about their ram and the 1333 bus speed ram will NOT work well with MacBooks.Your Snowleopard OS will freeze and not respond and might even crash or ask you to restart.Your problems are more if you are running "Parallels" as that will freeze and crash as well.So say no to anybody recommending 1333 bus speed to your Macbook Pro.That will make your life easier.-KomputerBay sells cheaper version of low quality memory. The one i received had a brand of Zepplin which does not even have a website and yet offer life time warranty!!.So you can imagine what will happen to the 235 US$, Down the drain.-When you insert the KomputerBay Zepplin memory, your Mac will not identify its serial or product number and that speaks for itself.Low quality Ram from cheap chip manufacturers.-The one that i ordered with Komputerbay was 1066 DDR3 8gb kit.To my surprise i got a 1333 DDR3 8gb kit which was labeled as 1066 DDR3 8GB.Komputerbay did not bother to check the item before dispatch.Faced plenty of problems and my Mac said no to the Ram.I ultimately returned the memory and got my refund of 235 US$.Komputerbay processes refund very fast.-The memory sold by Quantum technology on Ebay at 310 US$ is good and of ELPIDA brand.Mac recognizes the serial and product number of the memory sold by these people.-In summary stay away from Komputerbay if you are wanting to upgrade ram for your Mac Book Pro 13, 15, or 17.

Go to the main website www.crucial.com/uk

You will see three 'tabs' underneath the blue banner on the front page.

Select the System Scanner tab and then the Scan My Computer button and then select the Download the Scanner button.

This will download the file CrucialMacScanner_UK.zip. Unzip and run this program to see what memory is available for your computer. Select the one you want and click Buy Now.

Prices include VAT and delivery is free. Usually takes two to three days.

Hope this works for you.

The restore feature on your disk does not get rid of your files. It restores the operating system. If you click to do an install , not an erase and install it will do an archives and install but does not keep the old system folder. you home user folder will still be there. When you starup hold down command and R. You can wait for more posts to see if I'm wrong. When the restore opens you'll see a selection - for utilities- password -terminal- restore from time machine and install. If you don't run utilities to erase your disk you should be ok.
