I went to my windows partition and when I restarted and held down "option" the mac partition was not an option. Then, when I tried to use a backup, the only place to put it is on the windows partition. It is like half of my hard drive disappeared.

Can you see the partition from the OS X side?

As the Mac partition can't be booted I doubt that anything can be seen!

Restart from the recovery partition (hold cmd-R at the chime) and see what Disk Utility has to say.
oh... right... Can Windows see the drive is what i meant.
