FYI: Warning to podcasters using MobileMe

MobileMe will be terminated on 30th June 2012. If you have a podcast hosted on your iDisk you must take steps to move it to another hosting service at the latest before the beginning of June.

Getting iTunes to register a new URL for the feed involves adding a special tag to the feed: the full method is described here -

http://www.wilmut.webspace.virginmedia.com/notes/podcast.html#move

You need to keep the old feed running for at least two week in order to allow subscribers to have a chance to check it and get redirected to the new URL. The iTunes Store should redirect within a few days: once it has taken place for the Store or each subscriber redirection is permanent and will continue when the feed is deleted at the end of June.

If you do not do this you will lose control of your podcast in the iTunes Store and not be able to retrieve it.

Roger,

Thanks so much for all the info you've provided on this subject. I've been meticulously picking through all of it as I gear up for the transfer of my podcast. But... I want to ensure I'm doing it right so I don't mess it up and lose my subscriber base.

My feed link is barely changing.

OLD FEED IS:

http://www.nathanyoga.com/yoga/Vinyasa_Yoga_with_Nathan_Johnson/rss.xml

NEW FEED IS:

http://www.nathanyoga.com/Vinyasa_Yoga_with_Nathan_Johnson/rss.xml

I found my MobileMe rss.xml file in my iDisk. I downloaded it and opened it as a Text file. I will then make the following correction:

OLD:

"<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

<rss xmlns:itunes="http://www.itunes.com/dtds/podcast-1.0.dtd" xmlns:iweb="http://www.apple.com/iweb" version="2.0">

<title>Vinyasa Yoga with Nathan Johnson</title>

<link>http://www.nathanyoga.com/yoga/Vinyasa_Yoga_with_Nathan_Johnson/Vinyasa_Yoga_wit h_Nathan_Johnson.html</link>

<description>Stuck at a hotel? Want to practice in the privacy of your own home? Take your practice anywhere! From basics to strong, 45 to 90 minutes, you can find the yoga class you want in this free podcast.

This look right to you?

Thanks for your help!

Please start a new thread when you have a query. You've tacked onto an announcement I made, and it's confusing when people do this; and also you are less likely to be noticed.

What you propose is correct. However there is no file present at

http://www.nathanyoga.com/yoga/Vinyasa_Yoga_with_Nathan_Johnson/rss.xml

so you need to sort that out first. If you need to come back on this please start a new thread.
