I don't use my Apple TV much but when it wouldn't turn on the device I thought no big deal, change the battery and presto, it worked,.. 3 days later, I went to watch it again and same thing,..... The remote won't turn on my Apple TV,. Anyone else hear of such a thing? Is the answer simply buy a new remote or is there an actual Apple fix for this?

Some of the buttons are sticking and making contact causing the battery to go flat. Remove battery . Completely saturate the buttons with WD4O or Electrical Contact Cleaner, also spray into battery opening towards switches. Work the switches vigourously. Wrap in tissue paper to soak up excess fluid. Put on radiator to dry out. Hey presto your remote is working again. Repeat above if still not working. Believe me it is this simple.
Don't know how you came to that solution, but it worked for me. Even though there is a brand new battery, they tested it at the hardware store, it still showed an icon that the battery is almost drained. Please let me know if you found any other ways to resolve this issue

I still have the same batteries in most of my remotes and some of them are 5 years old, either you have a problem with your specific remote or you may have paired the Apple TV with another remote.
Hold the remote close to and pointed at the Apple TV, hold down the menu and Rewind buttons together for 6 seconds or until you see a broken chain icon on screen.
My device is worse it is draining batteries within three days or so, it started last month, the original Panasonic battery lasted over nine months, so far I have tried Energizer and Sunbeam (all Lithium) to no avail, I already replaces 8 batteries in one month.
Could it be a firmware update glitch?
More likley a fault in the remote.
I think I've only changed a single Apple remote battery since 2006 when i got my first one with an iMac.
The AppleTV software/firmware should have no bearing on the remote battery life.
Bad battery batch? Are they genuine?

All Batteries are genuine purchased from big box retailers, all with 2013-2014 expiry, since the device is more than one year old I don't think they will replace it for free though.

No, seems unlikely they'll replace out of warranty.
A replacement remote isn't terribly expensive I suppose.

This started happening to me too. I solved it by gently rubbing a pencil eraser on the remote control battery contacts, blowing the "dust" out and wiping the battery off with a soft cloth.
I"m also having the same issue. It ate 2 brand new batteries in under a week!
the buttons have microswitches under them which electronically detect the click
if a hardware defect cause the switches to be ½ or fully activated by itself often it will use a lot of battery
it's pretty much the only reason rather then other hardware issues like a periodic defect chip using up power
