safari missing iphone user guide

When I open Safari and click on the "open book" all of the bookmarks I have saved in AOL appear, but none of the information/titles that are supposed to appear in Safari Bookmarks are there - most importantly the Iphone 4s user guide. Apple tells me there is no way to get that back unless I reset my phone to day one which means losing every app I've downloaded etc. The tech says I "deleted" the user guide. Well, I didn't delete it. One would think the original Safari "bookmarks" would be there in addition to any bookmarks I've made. Has anyone else experienced this and perhaps know a work around or a suggestion on how to get the user guide and whatever else came with Safari back? Thanks! Iphone 4S
