do i need the dun profile???

I have a powerbook 15" with 10.3.3, and I just bought a sony/ericson z520a cell phone (through Cingular). I was under the impression I could use the cell phone to dial up to the internet for the computor using bluetooth. My computor can find the cell phone and tells me that the phone supports dial up networking. My phone can find my computor but the only thing it can find is object push and file transfer.

Does my computor need dial up networking profile? I am missing something that doesn't connect the two together for the dial up?

thanks!

DUN—or Dial Up Networking—requires more than just a Bluetooth DUN profile installed on your SONY Ericsson Z520a. It also requires…

• a data plan from your wireless carrier
• a GMS modem string compatible with your carrier and handset
• the appropriate configuration information for a dial-up account

You can obtain a script from Ross Barkman's site at:

http://www.taniwha.org.uk

[Look for the SONY Ericsson GPRS Scripts section on that page.]

I don't believe that your Z520a supports advanced high-speed network segments, so here is basic configuration data for the Cingular network in the US for GPRS:

• APN: isp.cingular
• username: isp@cingulargprs.com
• password: CINGULAR1
• DNS 1: 66.209.10.201
• DNS 2: 66.209.10.202
• SMTP server: photo.mycingular.com

As a Cingular subscriber, there are probably several mobile handsets available which are better choices. For access to a really high-speed link, you should look for a unit which supports HSCSD, EDGE or third-generation UMTS service levels. A Cingular network specialist should be able to give you specific information about what services are available in your area.
