I use Pages on my iPad and have it set to share documents via iCloud. When I open Pages on my iMac,however, I do not see any way to access those documents on iCloud. Am I missing something really obvious?

I bought Pages for ios specifically to share files with os x and iOS. How wrong I was. Pages for ios and os x are two different things. That is, the file formats are different. Apple should have done a better job in making that clear because I am sure many people bought Pages for ios to share files with their macs. Giving this handicap, I am going back to using plain text which syncs via dropbox

Of course you need a proper application on all devices to open and share a applications documents. That is nothing new.
Ray you need to update your iMacs system to at least 10.6.6 and Pages to version 4.1 to being able share through iCloud. It isn't automatic though from the Mac. That you can rad more about in this forum.

Please substantiate your claim that the Pages file formats are different under iOS and Mac OSX. That is not the case to my knowledge.
Yes they are 2 separate applications but what they produce is the same.

I have absolutely the latest apps and operating system on my iPad and my iMac.
The whole point, I thought, of iCloud's documents sync is that documents should be easily sync'd between Pages, Numbers and Keynote on different platforms.
Pages on the iPad and iPhone store the docments in a "special" folder. In Mac OSX documents can be saved anywhere on the Mac.
I don't know about the "native" file format on the iPhone of iPad, but if I email the document to my Mac, Pages on the Mac can open the file. Its just that I shouldn't have to email it since it's already on iCloud and the Mac has a connection to iCloud.

Thanks for that. Since I don't have an iPad or iPhone I've not been able to try this.
Ah well Apple strikes again! …and ofcourse misleads users into thinking that it all "just works".

Apple has not updated the desktop versions of the iWork apps to use iCloud. Until they do you have to use iCloud.com in a web browser or iTunes to sync files. You could also try e-mail or DropBox.
That is a good point. I am sure will see an iWork '12 version soon.
