Disk filling up itself pretty quickly, what's happening?

Hello there,

My hdd filling up itself pretty quickly.

Apparently its not just me whois' journaled disk (10.6.8) is filling up itself automatically due to some unknown reason.

Last time I removed an 8GB of extra storage, the disk from itself got filled out of nowhere altering me with a message saying the disk is almost full.

Is that a virus, malware or may be a system bug?

A friend of mine suggesting it was a VMware-related problem, anybody can confirm?

How can I fix that?

By the way, I tried disconnecting my scanner. But the messages continue. If it is them that's filling up my disk, how do I delete them (as well as stopping them, of course)? Thanks for any help.

That's not your scanner. That's coming from the scanner of some A-V program from McAfee, Virex. Uninstall it completely, it's obviously a badly written program.

If you want to run any A-V, get ClamXav, which is known to be completely compatible with Macs.

Update on my previous messages: I checked out "Where did my Disk Space go?" - Thanks Pondini!

I found a lot of HUGE asl files and have deleted all except the most recent. Wow - what a difference to the available capacity on my hard disk!

So I've got some temporary relief, at least, from that dreadful drowning feeling. I had thought I was going under.

Still don't understand the Console messages, though. (But nor do I know how much space they were taking.)
