My iPhone 4s will not turn off

HI all,

This is an odd one that hopefully someone knows something about. My iPhone 4s refuses to turn off and just does a reboot instead (quick one at that).

If I have the charger power cable plugged in it will turn off and stay off until I either power it up or unplug the charge cable (has to have power to shutoff).

ANy suggestions most welcome.

btw I have taped off the sim card already to get rid of the invalid sim error (power off problem existed before I taped it up too). I have also tried power off with sim removed, phone upside down, flat, sideways (both sides) and standing on my head ;-)

I would try restoring the iPhone with iTunes from your iPhone's backup first. If no change after that, restore as a new iPhone or not from the backup. If no change after the latter, the iPhone includes a one year warranty which includes whatever the problem with the SIM card is - you shouldn't need to "tape off" the SIM card which indicates a hardware problem.

Hi Allan,

Back up and restore in progress and will let you know.

Just as an fyi loads of people have had issues with the sim problem mentioned so I thought I would give it a try too and it seems to be working. I have tried 3 new sims already and a new sim tray but to no avail.

I use a mini sim and the sim tray rail on the one side is very close to the sim tracks which could create a short if it gets hot or a little pressure is applied.

77 MB to go.

Thanks for the fast reply.

Cheers,

It doesn't matter how many people have had this issue out of the many millions of 4S sold to date. If your iPhone has the problem, it is a hardware problem and the iPhone includes a one year warranty.

The iPhone 4S accepts a mini-SIM card only. Did you manually cut down a full sized SIM card to fit, or did your carrier provide a mini-SIM? If the former, no wonder. If the latter, your iPhone has a hardware problem.

I actually managed to resolve that issue..

Though I'm not quite sure how..

I did "reset all settings", and still saw the issue, but then I was doing some other steps to resolve a different issue, changing location services, two-button reset.. And then discovered the power-off issue was fixed.

My bigger issue of high battery drain and the "usage" stats of te phone being equal to uptime remain..

I discovered that there are some apps that display the console log (service log), and from that I see that when the phone tries to go into low power mode, it instead goes into a constant loop of powering down, getting an unexpected cable disconnect event from he, and waking back up 1 second later, then try to go into low power mode again after 10 seconds (repeat). Time to try DFU restore, and get replacement phone if that doesn't work.
