Restoring a Bootcamp volume from backup

Needing to increase my Bootcamp partition, I used Win7's in-built b/up software to create a b/up volume on an external disk.

However, Win7 could not see the b/up disk to Restore from.

The solution I came upon was to:

A) load Windows — I'm sure this could be done during the install phase if one knows more about Windows — on to the partition.

B) plug in ext drive

C) open up the disk utility and assign the ext drive a path (eg "G:") now the disk will be visible

D) reboot the install disk and *now* the b/up volume is visible and away it goes.

Hope that helps.
