When I tried to view a DVD-R disc that was burnt with photos from my now redundant PC on my Mac nothing was shown on screen apart from saying that it was a blank disc. Can my Mac not read the info from the PC on the disc or am I missing something? There was data on the disc as my daughters laptop (pc) could show the pics.

Depends on what software was used to burn the DVD and what format form the photos are in?
Sorry for being somewhat MicroSoft illiterate, but I have a question. When you view the DVD on your daughters laptop do the photos show up a jpeg images that can be viewed with the simple windows photo viewer or are they opened as a PowerPoint SlideShow or something similar?

When I brun a DVD-r of photos from my Mac they can be viewed as well on my daughters laptop using just the standard viewing software installed, but it doesn't seem to go the other way around, i.e. pc to Mac
Insert the DVD into your iMac and open iPhoto, then while in iPhoto go upon the menu bar to File / Import to Library, now in the pop up window navigate to the DVD and click Import.
Just finished trying that, it tried to import but iPhoto quit unexpectedly,giving it another go, iPhoto has just quit again.
If you have any other ideas I am open to them, I have a one to one booked for friday so I will also raise the issue with them also.

I am having the same problem. I have a DVD-R that was burned on a PC that works on my Macbook with leopard but will not read on my IMac with Lion installed. All other discs seem to run fine but this one. Anyone?
Walk into the Apple Store and pop the DVD into one of there iMac's.
If it works in there iMac, then make an appointment to fine out why it's not working in your iMac.
If it's not working in there iMac, then perhaps you should re-burn the DVD using a different format or software.
I wish it were that easy, as I live over an hour away from the nearest Apple Store. I guess it just seems weird that my old laptop has less issues than my new IMac. The only real diff. in the 2 is the operating system which tells me there is a flaw with Lion. What a headache.

Did you know you have 90 days of free AppleCare telephone support? You can find the number in your owners manual, give them a call and they can probably coach you through it. They work M- Sat during business hours.

I had no luck at the one to one session as their macs couldn't read the disc as well,they said perhaps the burnt disc needed formatting. Since I just used the standard windows xp program to do it I'd imagine that it would have been formatted.
So after that session I tried again to burn photos from pc to a DVD-r disc but this time I used my daughters windows 7 laptop, it gave me the option to burn as "USB format to be read by any pc running xp and above" or as a "cd/DVD that cannot be re-recorded" this is the one I used, hey pesto it worked.
So all I have to do is load all my photos on to a 7 machine and then take them to disc and import to my mac. No its far easier to put them onto a usb memory stick and import the photos you want that way.
Haven't solved the xp issues but sort of got it sorted there abouts thank you all out there in the community.

LOL so much for one on one! I downloaded the disc into my iphoto on my older mac book burned a new disc and all worked great on my IMac. This is so weird because all the cd/dvd's I've burned on my PC with windows xp work great but for some reason this one is fickle! And why it works on the mac book and not the Imac leads me to a Lion issue. I have to go into the Mac store one of these days I'll take the disc along and see if it will work on their machines and see if these guys have any ideas. Take care, Fran
