Lion won't shutdown

I am running Max OS Lion (10.7.2) on my iMac. Since last week I'm facing a problem shutting down the system. Sometimes it works like it did the month before but most of the time the grey screen with a little turning wheel appears and nothing happens. I have to switch off the Mac of by pressing the power button. I am not Mac OS expert, what I have found in the log are the following messages:

I have what apperars to be the same situation. One thing that I think I have isolated is that if I open and save a sheet in Excel this shutdown situation occurs. I have tested and can get a clean shutdown if I do not save in Excel. Word does not seem to produce the same result. I think this may be something Microsoft and Apple will need to work out.

I am running: iMac (late) 2010, 3.2 GHz intel core, 12 GB memory

OS X 10.7.2

Excel for Mac 2011 Verison 14.1.3 (110805)

What is the filename of the log you copied in your post? I have tried to find the relevant log on my iMac but have been unable to find it.

Sorry I can't contribute more but maybe we can both get an answer here.

I am fairly certain it will shutdown properly if I delete Office as it is only an Excel save that seems to cause the condition. Just opening Excel spreadsheets is not the problem so just having it on the drive could hardly be the problem by itself.

Still not a bad suggestion but I may forestall trying it and wait for other ideas. My reluctance is because I have 2010 version discs and a downloaded upgrade. Even reinstalling from disc would be time consuming but with the upgrade it will be a real hassle.

I'm working on my problem for days now. Not totaly sure but it seems to be caused by my new Marantz NA 7004 Network Player and / or the router I'm using. When I disconnect the NA 7004 everything runs normal, also when I keep the player in my network but switch off wi-fi before shutting down. Communication problem?

I'm going to try a different switch with an ethernet setup (no wi-fi) next week..

Same problem even on ML. If I shut down with no Internet connection or the connection is only second to none, it won't shut down. It might be related to some unfinished updete daemon delaying the progress or some *malware* not able to upload something competely, which may also interrupt the shut down proress. Shame that there's no log during the long wait.
