Q: what is the replacement product for iWeb?

I am a current user of iWeb.  I understand that iWeb is no longer an application suite.  Could any recommend a product that provide a standard template as iWeb?

I really prefer an product that I can easily migrate my iWeb page into without major rework.

Thank you.

Tell Apple. There is nothing else we can tell you here that has not already been explained

    Cheers

This is pure speculation and a forum is not the place for this - speculation about something that will most likely never happen.

Tell Apple directly, but don't hold your breath.

After using my one and only MacBook for eight years, I finally discovered iWeb sitting down there in the dock.   So, I tried it out and found it to be seemingly easy, even without reading many of the instructions. Still, I wondered if it was being used these days. The good posts/suggestions in this thread probably saved me a lot of wasted time learning iWeb and discovering it to be outdated unless you are some pro who has time and experience to make anything work better.  I might fool around with it, but my first question was going to be where do you publish the finished Webpage. Since it is not going to be on an Apple host, I don't see the point in spending time on this dead application. Too bad Apple can't, at least, take it off iLife or whatever software they still sell or promote.

As you would with any website, you publish the finished site on a web host of your choice, of which there are many.

I see a lot of people complaining about Apple don't update iWeb. That's true, me too I would love to have a new updated version of iWeb.
But the truth is that you can do a lot of things that is being made today with more expensive web design software with iWeb using the HTML Snippet on iWeb.

Download the app and see for yourself.

Did you know that you can ask these questions in the Everweb forum?

The top Content Management Systems that are widely in use are WordPress, Joomla and Drupal.

WordPress is widely used, but it is very likely that for a website such as Apple's, they could have used Drupal - there is more that you can do.

You need to search for themes and WordPress.org has many free themes that you can search for inside the installation itself.  Drupal not so many, but you can do a search.

However, people use themes and adapt them for what they want and it is highly likely that Apple would have done this - you get a basic theme and you then adapt it for your own use by altering the colours - this means that you have to get in and alter the CSS code of the actual theme itself.

You also extend the content by adding what are known as Plugins in WordPress and Modules in Drupal.

I would suggest that you do some reading up about Content Management Systems and how they work before you install one of them.  Drupal.org, WordPress.org and Joomla.org.

If you're seriously thinking of making a serious e-commerce site then you really have a lot more learning to do, and it's not something you can fumble your way to via questions on a site like this. The security issues alone are enormous. You need a professional developer for what you're talking about.
