The Apple Mobile Device service terminated unexpectedly.

The service restarts every minute and crashed instantly.

I tried the uninstall and reinstall of iTunes. No luck.

try a sfc /scannow in case kernelbase.dll is corrupt and needs to be repaired/replaced with an original. i have the same problem and AMDS will not start, fails to restart. I even tried double clicking on the exe in "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\AppleMobileDeviceService.exe" and it errors out. I'm running Windows 7 64-bit trying to install iTunes 12 64-bit.

The error is being caused because you are running a 32-bit EXE on Windows 64-bit.

If you are installing iTunes 12 64-bit, do the following:

* Download, install, and run 7zip portable: http://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/7-zip_portable

* From 7zip portable, navigate to where you downloaded itunes6464setup.exe (e.g. c:\users\your_username\downloads)

* Right click on the exe and select Open Inside

* Run AppleApplicationSupport.msi

* When asked to Repair or Remove, select Remove.

I recommend you run all the other MSI from the bottom up:

Bonjour64.msi

AppleMobileDeviceSupport6464.msi

AppleApplicationtSupport64.msi

AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi

iTunes6464.msi

If you given to option to Repair or Remove, I would Remove. Go through that process, then run the MSI again to install it again.

Just make sure you skip AppleApplicationSupport.msi since this is a 32-bit MSI and will cause the error you are reporting if you install it again. Remove it and don't install it.
