iPad charge dropping to 0 suddenly

Hi,

My iPad is a bit over a year old. Until very recently, it was working great - 10-11 hours battery life.

In the past week, it suddenly started dropping from being 80-90% charged to 0, overnight (being idle). I just pick it up, and it won't start - showing me a blinking red bar in a battery and an icon for charging. I connect it to the charger, it takes 20 minutes to agree to start and then shows 0% battery, and takes the usual time charging to 100%. Then I use it, as normal, say until it's at 80%. I turn it off. Then the next morning, the same story repeats.

Is this a known problem? Battery/hardware, or software? What can I do?

iPad, iOS 4.3.1

Either there is a battery issue, or, hopefully, a rouge app eating your power. When you are done for the day, do you typically close down all apps? Double tapping the home screen, and closing off stuff in the task bar?

Battery usage comes from screen staying on, the radio staying on, or cpu usage by an app. Your can try and track it down.

There is an app called system status that has become one of my trouble shooting fsvorites. If you run it while closing apps on the taks bar, you can watch the changes that happen to cpu usage, and sometimes figure out which app is causing the problem.

Batteries do degrade over time, but the kind of changes you describe are pretty extreme, and i bet youcan find the cause.

There have also been reports of 'unreconcilable address' issues with contact stored in the clound that cannot sync, so the machine just keeps trying until it runs itself into the ground. Try turning the cloud off for a while.
