Q: Convert Appleworks 5

MacLink no longer exists. You can't print a file you can't open. Is there ANY way to convert ab Applworks 5 file?

    • Word Processing documents can be opened directly only in Pages.
    • Draw Documents can be opened directly only in EazyDraw (the more expensive version from their website, not the cheaper one from the Mac App Store, and you will need v4.0 'Retro' not the most recent version) or Intaglio (though this appears not to be able to handle very complex drawings).
    • Spreadsheets can be opened directly only in Numbers.
    • Presentations can be opened directly only in Keynote.

To use other programs, or open Painting or Database documents at all, you must export from AppleWorks first. Nothing other than AppleWorks can open AppleWorks databases.

This article examines the situation in some detail:

Pages WILL NOT open Appleworks 5

    • I was able to open the document in TextEdit. It's not pretty, bur all the text was there.

I'm afraid that is the case - I've amended my first page to make this clear.

Yvan Koenig has reported success in running AppleWorks under emulation in VirtualBox; this might be worth looking into.
