Using iPhone as 3G modem for iPad

I am looking at buying an iPad 2 with Wi-Fi and have an iPhone3GS, which I often use as a modem for my computer/laptop. Could I use the iPhone to access the internet for the iPad, in areas with 3G but no Wi-Fi access? e.g.: connecting the two devices via bluetooth or Personal Hotspot
