I plug my iPhone in, but itunes doesn't do anything, it won't sync?

I got new laptop, and have compeltely transferred all my music and things from my old laptop to my new one.

I go to sync my iPhone, but when I plug it in iTunes doesn't recognise there is an iPhone there. The computer recognises the iPhone, but iTunes won't.

I tried syncing my iPod classic with my new laptop, which worked fine, it's just the iPhone that wont. I have gone through all the iPhone trouble shooting steps, and still no luck.

I plugged my iPhone into my old laptop, and it syncs fine on there.

Is there anything I can do?

iPhone 3GS, iOS 5.0.1

Did you go through this (Resolve Software Conflicts) from my first link?... http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/assistant/itunes/#section_7

Did you uninstall and reinstall iTunes?

i wasnt really sure what was going on with that part, i'll try and make sense of it again though,

yes, i have un and re installed itunes about 5 times today

i got so far as step 14, but the message bubble never popped up, and it doesn't say what to do if it doesn't.
