Documents are uploaded and downloaded to OSX based devices through iCloud.com, documents need opening on an iOS device before they can be downloaded from iCloud.com.
I can't upload a Pages document to iCloud from my iMac. All I get when I sign in to iCloud and click on the iWork button is the welcome screen (below) and the options to “learn more” or “get Pages for iOS”. I have "documents & data" checked in system preferences for iCloud. I also have tried to drag and drop a pages document into the browser window (on the screen shown below). The green plus sign even appears but once I let go nothing happens. My calendar and contacts are synched but so far I can't move Pages documents to icloud. I don not own an iOS device (iPhone or iPad). What am I doing wroing?
Unfortunately, you cannot use iCloud without an iOS device.
Bummer. And idea if this is going to change in the future? I just purchased a macbook air and was hoping to sync my documents with my iMac via the cloud. I see the option of iwork.com, but I also see that that is being discontinued as of July 31st. Now I'm wondering if I should have gotten an ipad instead of the macbook air 😟.

Use Sugarsync to maintain documents sync between your iMac and your Air, 5G of storage is free.
I'm assuming iWork will be able to work with iCloud directly in the future, but I wouldn't know for sure.
You most certainly can use iWork on iCloud without an iOS device....
(you can also still use the iWork.com beta site that's available under the Share menu in pages... You will have to authenticate before it will enable you to utilize it... documents you upload to the iWwork.com beta via the Share menu will not show up in iCloud though...)
I am working from a MacBook Pro running Lion. I have a Mac Mini at the office. I have no iOS gadgets, call me old fashion or poorer than average.
Currently I upload to iWork Pages documents so I can work on them with either machine. When iWork goes away in a few days, will I be able to use iCloud somehow to do the same thing I am currently doing?

Care to explain how?
I don't know about 10.7, but if you upgrade to Mountain Lion and THEN upgrade to the latest version of iWork, the whole thing comes to life.
If you have more than one Mac running this configuration, the files will be available to you directly or through the iCloud web site from all of them. Additionally, Preview and Textedit can upload files including images and pdfs.
How do I sync PDF documents on ibooks in my Mac with ibooks in my ipad? Shouldn't that be automatic with sync collections on?
