Any suggestions on what to change? I went through font book to look for issues with fonts. I went into prefs and made sure text to speech was off. thanks in advance.

Yes, the keyboard. That one has died.
The t, g, and b keys are all in the same "column". those kinds of problems are indicative of keyboard Hardware Failure.

Uppercase won't work on t g and b keys - all apps
