Q: Having no luck so thought I would try this section!!

I have the Harmonn Kardon series 1 sound sticks....

Can I get a USB to 3.5mm stereo Jack plug to output to these speakers. They are powered through their own power supply but the 1st series used a USB connector to connect to the PC????

I have seen them on ebay, from china for a £1 or so... supposedly carrying power and data. I assume the Harmonn Kardon cable is data only as the power is received through its own separate power supply. Would this cable do any damage?

I asked this question 4 years ago and got the same response....ZILCH  I did a search 4 years ago and found the same question asked by another ..... response for them was the same ZILCH!.

Does no-one have any ideas...am I the only person in the world who wants to keep these speakers but have them work with new kit????

Anyone???

Thanks for your help

My HK first generation are fully operating !

Yes, it,is me again, but now with a little trick that was working so well for me and I would like to know if it works for you.

The first solution that was working for few months was with a old preference file from Leopard. But this solution stop working for me when I disconnect the power cord and never come back to work.

2nd solution; is SO simple and I hope it will work for you too. I let the HK unplugged for few days, like someone has already discuss... BUT the thing that works for me is....

With everything unplugged ( USB and Power Cord ), with my late iMac 2012 and Mountain Lion, open iTunes choose a song and let it play, plug the power and after the USB it will make a BIG noisy sound. Pull out the USB and put it back AND IT'S DONE. HK is back for a long time I hope.

Let me know if it works for you.

I also have a pair of original harman kardon USB soundsticks, and I'd like to hook them up to my TV.  After reading these posts I get the gist of the analog-to-digital conversion issues.  However, I was wondering if this might be a solution:

my TV is a Samsung LCD 630 Series, 2010 model.  One of the options for audio output is a digital audio optical cable...do you think that a digital audio optical-to- USB adapter would render these speakers operational?

    thanks for your input.

YOU ARE NOT ALONE MY FRIENDS!! I have a pair of USB speakers that I don't want to get rid of...I bought a Mac and they didn't work on it so I almost tossed them....but, like you guys....did not want to get rid of em. I think they would work great in my garage when I am in there hanging out so I started started researching and found nada! I found this site today so after reading all the posts...I am going to try to cut the wire and connect the wires to a 3.5mm jack....someone mentioned this on a post somewhere...what do you think before I do this???

Don't do it.  Doesn't work.  That USB cable carries digital data only.  The digital data is then processed INSIDE the woofer, and converted to analog.  Cutting the USB cable and attaching 3.5mm will not work because the 3.5mm carries analog.

I try one of those, and doesn't work . Do you think that is possible to change the sound card inside the woofer?

I may be dense... I found this thread searching for a solution to attach a relatively recent Nano to the older HK stick/woofer set.

Before I go out and look at / buy kits and a variety of possible connectors, I figured I'd check back here:

Should I be looking for something that can connect the 2 USB connectors or something else?

    Thanks!
