MY IPAD DOES NOT SHOW UP UNDER DEVICES. I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING THAT HAS BEEN SUGGESTED ON ITUNES, IPAD GUIDE AND YOUTUBE BUT TO NO AVAIL. MY IPOD SHOWS UP. THIS IS A NEW IPAD JUST OBTAINED AT XMAS. PLEASE HELP.

Which operating system are you using?
And this -
Connect your iPad to your computer.
Search for it in Windows Explorer (if your system is Wodows) as you would any other external device such as a usb key.
Right click on it and go to Properties.
There should be a place to set what will happen each time the device is connected, set it to do nothing and now try again.
This has solved the issue in another case, and I gave the same advice in a recent thread but the poster has not reported back yet.
