Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

Do I need anti-malware?

I've heard some folks say that I do not need antivirus software for my Mac (I'm new to Mac) but what about anti-malware?

Thanks.

My guess is that you must work for Symantec, since you advocate it so strongly and advise against any other. But guess what? While ClamXav is recommended here, it is not needed... nor is Norton or anything of its type.

I do not work for Symantec! But I bet eww works for whoever makes ClamXav since he has such strong feelings about it!

Just in case you want to hear another opinion on Symantec, Compukid, I will state mine which is Norton used to be great on Mac back in the days of OS 6 and OS 7 before Symantec bought them out. It has been steady down hill ever since then. After Apple release OS X, it appears Symantec has never been able to grasp it at all and has actually become extremely dangerous.

I would be very interested in your qualifications that allow you to call yourself a Security Guy. Your comments that you have posted in this thread don't reflect any knowledge of computer security at all.

Okay, what proof do you want that I don't work for Symantec?

The way you get so paniced every time you are accused is enough for me.

In what ways is Symantec "extremely dangerous"?

Yet still, you are quick to jump to Symantec's aid.

Are we here to debate on if I work for Symantec, or to help someone?

You know the answer to that. So why don't you help someone?

Do I need anti-malware?
