Do I need anti-malware?
I've heard some folks say that I do not need antivirus software for my Mac (I'm new to Mac) but what about anti-malware?
Thanks.

If you've never heard of ClamXav, you're neither a Mac guy *nor* a security guy.
My guess is that you must work for Symantec, since you advocate it so strongly and advise against any other. But guess what? While ClamXav is recommended here, it is not needed... nor is Norton or anything of its type.
Nothing to do with McAfee. I replied to your question about whether I considered Symantec untrustworthy. Yes, absolutely.

I do not work for Symantec! But I bet eww works for whoever makes ClamXav since he has such strong feelings about it!
"I do not work for Symantec!" and yet your first question of eww was if he thought Symantec was untrustworthy. And yet no one mentioned Symantec, until you did.

"And yet no one mentioned Symantec, until you did." I was the first one to answer this question!
Anyone who stands to benefit from making any recommendation here is required to say so. I have never been employed in any capacity by any entity in the computer hardware or software industries, and I've been retired from all employment for years.
Okay, what proof do you want that I don't work for Symantec?

Yes, but you were sure quick to defend it when eww first commented, and he said nothing that attacked Symantec in any way.
Are we here to debate on if I work for Symantec, or to help someone?
Just in case you want to hear another opinion on Symantec, Compukid, I will state mine which is Norton used to be great on Mac back in the days of OS 6 and OS 7 before Symantec bought them out. It has been steady down hill ever since then. After Apple release OS X, it appears Symantec has never been able to grasp it at all and has actually become extremely dangerous.
I would be very interested in your qualifications that allow you to call yourself a Security Guy. Your comments that you have posted in this thread don't reflect any knowledge of computer security at all.

In what ways is Symantec "extremely dangerous"?
I'm quite sure you don't work for Symantec. You don't know enough.
You didn't answer my question. And I have a question for you. Do you work for the maker of ClamXav?

The way you get so paniced every time you are accused is enough for me.

Yet still, you are quick to jump to Symantec's aid.

You know the answer to that. So why don't you help someone?
