My ichat won't keep my buddies.

When I add buddies to my ichat they appear offline then disapear a few seconds later? It is ichat 6.0.1.

hi,

Are your adding people in iChat that you already have in the Address Book ?

If you Add the First Name, Last Name info in iChat it will not add the name to the Address Book.

Do the Add Process again

This time, at the Last Name Line select the blue arrow head and then chose the Buddy from the Address Book

This will add their Screen Name or Jabber ID to their Card.

Alternatively add their Screen Name or Jabber ID to the Address Book Entry then drag their name to iChat.

No Problem.

Thanks for the points.

History for those interested.

In reality this actually has a error code name and number.

It is FeedBag error 10 although iChat stopped reporting this from version 4 and beyond.

Buddies are "Food" - Food is kept in "Feedbags"

From there your Buddy List as Screen Names only is Feedbag at the server end.

Your Address Book is a local Feedbag.

iChat can add to this Feedbag so that Buddies appear with the "Real Names".

Like you cannot add the same Screen Name twice, the Address Book will not allow the same First Name, Last Name combo to the Address Book

(You cannot have two John Smith names. If you know two John Smiths their Address Book entries have to be different at the First Name, Last Name level).

The Error still exists but iChat does not report it.

The other two in the Link have since disappeared from general use. (There is no realistic Limit on the Buddy list any more).
