I received a US iTunes gift card for Christmas but currently have my apple ID registered in Australia. I tried to switch my iTunes store registration from Australia to the US to redeem my gift card, but am unable to do so because iTunes says "you still have rentals that have not expired". How do I delete the rental record so I can switch the country and redeem my gift card? Thanks
You can ONLY use the itunes store of your country of residence AND ONLY while you are physically located inside the borders of that country.

Do you have a valid U.S billing address on your credit card?
Yes - I am physically in the US now and have an address and credit credit card. Do I need to switch all of that information before I am able change the country?
I am not able to change my payment method (ie switch my Australian credit card for my American card) until I change my country registration, which I cant do due to the rental issue described above.
Contact itunes support and tell them about the rental. They should be able to clear it for you.
