I had to do a factory reset with my MyBookLive earlier today due to something else going wrong yesterday, now i am trying to do another WHOLE backup and it stopped again with an "error 30" !!!!
any ideas anyone please ?

That's a problem with the NAS device. While some third-party NAS manufacturers claim to support Time Machine, I think it's risky to rely on them. Using a NAS with TM as your only backup is out of the question.

Most likely, the network location has changed, or the account set up on the NAS isn't seen as being the same one.
Try re-selecing it via Time Machine Preferences. You may need to either use WDs default password, or change it before doing that.
Also, I'm not sure what you mean by "trying to do another WHOLE backup." If you do a backup to an existing set of backups, TM will do an "incremental" backup of changes. You can't force a full one (and there's no reason to), short of deleting the backups, or if you've replaced or erased and restored your Mac's internal HD.
Pondini, I suspect something preety bad is going on, during a normal (incremental) backup a couple of days ago, it told it couldnt verify the volume (or something similar) and it would have to create a new backup, so i did that and got a little way through that and it came up with that message.

Absolutely spot on, that just explains the problem, doesnt help much in fixing it !.
As expected i havent yet heard back from WD, i had an unrelated problem when it was new, i sent them all the Logs i could find, i gave up waiting for a reply, i assume they didnt understand the information contained in the log file !!.
WD is flavour of the month in my house.

Yes, I've seen a few posts to the effect that WD's support is somewhat limited. 😟
Your best bet at this point may be to erase the WD (you can't use Disk Utility; you'll have to use the WD software) and try setting-it up "from scratch."
Do that while connected via Ethernet if at all possible, and do at least the first backup that way.
The "verification" message you got is likely the result of some sort of wireless interference or power problems during a previous backup, so if you can get things working properly via Ethernet, use the tools in the pink box of #C13 to try to improve your WIFI connection.
You might also consider getting a U.P.S. system for the network drive, if you think power failures or blips might be responsible.
Hi Pondini, thanks for all that valuable information, i shall have bite the bullet, and do another Factory Rest, i shall perhaps do a FULL factory reset this next time and try again.
What is even more annoying, when i was thinking of getting a Wireless hard drive in the first place, i was torn between the 3TB My Book Live which i got for £160 and a 2TB Time Capsule for £250, at the time i didnt really have any need for an other wireless router, my current one was 1gig LAN. A short while later my Internet connection started playing up, and the clever techie fella blamed my old Modem so he replaced it with a new modem/router, with a crap router section.
Anyway right from the start i realised the wireless Speed of the MyBookLive was crap, so i have always connected it to my MacBookPro with an Ethernet Cable !!!! LOL
Now in a very few days i changing my ISP and going from Cable to ADSL !!!, and (i already have it) yet another wireless router/modem.
if only i had got a Time Capsule instead ????????????

Oh, didn't realize you were already using Ethernet. It's a bit of a long shot, but try a new cable, and make sure everything is snug and secure.
Time Capsules aren't perfect, either, but they were designed by Apple specifically for wireless Time Machine backups. And while troubleshooting networks is always a bit of a crapshoot, it's much simpler with only one company involved.
Worse, not only does each NAS maker have their own software to interact with Time Machine, but some that make more than one NAS don't use the same software on all of them, so it's even harder to make any sense out of what's going on.
Bottom line: if you're going through the hassle of connecting directly to your Mac anyway, you might consider using a FireWire external HD. Much faster, simpler, less expensive, and more reliable.
Firewire external HD i like the sound of that buddy, i would love to take advantage of one of the best/fastest features on my MacBookPro.
I shall have a look at what is available. at a quick guess, i'll bet the (apple) firewire connecting cable isnt cheap LOL
LATER:- OK, i have now had a quick look and i now have another question, is my MacBookPro (early 2011) 400 or 800 ?

Unfortunately, HD prices have gone up lately, because of the flooding in Thailand, where most of the makers got components.
On the other hand, most (or all?) come with cables.
They're not the cheapest, but I recently bought this 500 GB multi-interface HD from OWC sales (who have a great reputation here). As you'll see, they have a large variety of stuff, including separate enclosures, so you can buy the enclosure and drive separately.

It's almost certainly F/W 800; I don't think Apple's used F/W 400 ports for a couple of years. You can tell by the shape of the port or plug:

And the little booklet that came with your Mac should have a diagram and labels, too.
I don't find a good picture of a F/W 400 port, but if you look closely here (from OWC's "gallery" in the earlier link), it's on the extreme right, next to a pair of F/W 800 ports:
By the way, you can get F/W 400 to F/W 800 cables fairly inexpensively, or small adapters for about $10.
Thanks for that buddy, i have now selected to do a Full Factory reset, on my 3TB MyBookLive, this, it says it will take a very long time !!! gggrrr, probably as long as it is going to Back it Up ALL over again ...... LOL.
at the moment i dont see any point in me spending out anymore at the moment until i establish for sure that i have a problem, if possible i will then sort it out ?, with Western Digital themselves !
